The Editress, LLC is owned by Elizabeth Mays.
Mays’ background blends marketing, publishing and education.
Specifically, her areas of expertise span high-level marketing strategy development; email marketing; education and training as marketing (webinars, tutorial videos, online courses); editorial project management and oversight (websites, blogs, books, magazines as content marketing); and content team leadership.
Her experience includes roles as director of marketing for OER / book formatting software client Pressbooks.com and marketing manager for open textbook / OER publisher the Rebus Community.
As an adjunct faculty at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, she developed and teaches some of the school’s first digital audience acquisition courses in content marketing through ASU Online, including a lab in which students do real work for client companies.
Mays was the editor of the collaboratively built A Guide to Making Open Textbooks With Students, (winner of the 2018 Open Education Consortium Award in the Open Textbook category), and the Media Innovation & Entrepreneurship open textbook.
She also authored several editions of the Pressbooks Guide to Self-Publishing and built 50+ videos for Pressbooks’ YouTube channel. She has been featured in various podcasts and as a speaker at many publishing-related events.
Prior to this experience, she served as outreach director for the Cronkite School, where she led the school’s Drupal-based website redesign, and later as assistant director for the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State University. In this role she managed the center’s WordPress-based website, businessjournalism.org, and email marketing. She developed the center’s first email course, Introduction to Covering Financials and compiled its first ebook download from blog content.
Mays maintains the Google AdWords Fundamentals and Google Analytics Individual Qualification certifications.
Previously, she served as executive editor of Scottsdale-based luxury lifestyle magazine, Arizona Foothills and launched its Tucson edition. She has long been the copy editor for Sedona Monthly and helped to produce the magazine’s first email newsletter and ebook, Sedona Monthly Hikes the Red Rocks.
